Everyone has a different turning point.

For some of us, going low tox comes about because of a diagnosis that needs an alternative approach for healing. For others, it’s the lack of diagnosis for a multiplicity of issues that have built up over time. For others it’s just a gradual realisation that what we slather on our skin and use to clean our homes can impact our health.

For me, it was a combination of things:

‼️Oven cleaner burning through my glove and causing me to vomit
‼️Sudden onset headache when walking through the supermarket cleaning aisle or fragrance section at Myer
‼️Skin rash caused by various ingredients in conventional laundry detergent and chemical sunscreen

We know that bioaccumulation of toxins is a recognised hazard and if we’re using 30-80 products on our bodies and in our homes every day, each with small amounts of questionable (or downright toxic) ingredients, at some point this exposure will tip the scales and we’ll find ourselves needing to find alternatives.

That tipping point will look different for you than it did for me. And maybe you’ll want to do a complete overhaul, or perhaps just start with the one product that’s causing issues.

Whatever it is and wherever you’re at, remember this: slow change is better than no change.

It’s better to make one change that sticks than to change a dozen things at once and let them all fall by the wayside after a month.
