Seriously, if you haven’t got baby spinach in the garden, this is your sign to plant it.

The amount of baby spinach I have in the garden would easily fit into 2 medium sized pots on a verandah and I’ve harvested it twice this week for family salads.

For a product that’s currently sitting at between $17 and $33 a kg, you won’t get a simpler, more nutritious vegetable to plant in your winter garden.

I’ve found spinach to be pest resistant and hardy and it prospers without the extra attention and fertilisers that some plants need.

Because it clumps and grows quite tight, it can be raised in a tiny space and it has a short time from planting to harvesting so you can reap the benefits quickly and frequently.

An easy first step to self-sufficiency.
