Thieves Household Cleaner breakdown of cost and uses

People have been using bleach-based products to clean their homes since the 50s, but guys… it’s not good stuff! Recent research conducted with over 9000 European children aged between 6 and 12 found bleach to be associated with a higher chance of illness. “Passive exposure to cleaning bleach in the home may have adverse effects on school-age children’s health by increasing the risk of respiratory and other infections. The high frequency of use of disinfecting irritant cleaning products may be of public health concern, also when exposure occurs during childhood.” To read the study, CLICK HERE.

Suffice it to say, bleach doesn’t feature in our home cleaning arsenal!

So what does?

I always felt like it was a bit weird to get excited about a cleaning product, but when there’s something that makes our lives easier and simpler, we definitely should get excited about it! So I guess you could say it’s not so much the cleaner that’s got me excited, but the benefits it bestows, and those benefits are manifold.

Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the Thieves Household Cleaner from Young Living and I’ve found it’s simplified care of the home, is effective and safe and costs far less than other plant-based cleaners on the market. Let’s take a closer look.

Simplifies life

Seriously, who wants half a dozen different cleaning bottles under the laundry sink? Thieves Household Cleaner does everything (literally, everything) – think mirrors, windows, benches, showers, toilets, cupboards, floors, vanity – so you only need the one product. I can’t tell you how lovely it is to just have one spray bottle in the laundry and one in the kitchen and that’s it!

I’ve also found it simplifies life purely by virtue of the fact that it lasts for so long. We use one bottle over about 6-7 months which means I can now avoid the cleaning aisle of the supermarket. #winning

Effective and safe

Thieves Household Cleaner is plant-based and powered by the essential oils of clove, lemon, cinnamon, rosemary and eucalyptus radiata. It is safe to use around kids and pets, doesn’t have that classic overpowering “chemical” smell of commercial cleaners and really does clean incredibly well.

Another benefit of the cleaner is that you can choose the dilution rate. So if you’re just planning to use the cleaner for daily upkeep of kitchen benches, mirrors, windows and vanities, the lowest dilution rate will be perfect. But if you were keen to use it for deep cleaning, built-up grime or perhaps a full-on exit clean, you can double or triple the dilution ratio to give it an extra kick.

Cost effective

One 426 mL bottle makes 42 x 500 mL spray bottles of cleaner, which works out at less than $1 per bottle. This is for the regular/daily use dilution rate – if you want it stronger, just double or triple the ratio (which will make it $2 – $3 per 500mL spray bottle), but we find 10 mL to a 500 mL spray bottle is perfect for our needs.

We use 60 mL a month – 2 x 500 mL spray bottles and 10 mL in the mop bucket 4 x a month – so the 426 mL bottle lasts us 6-7 months for our household cleaning needs.

How to get started

Getting started with the Thieves Household Cleaner is super easy and there are a few ways you can do it.

#1 Enrol as a retail customer with Young Living and grab the Thieves Household Cleaner for RRP which is still a great buy at $52.50. Wholesale price is $39.90.

#2 Enrol as a wholesale customer with Young Living and grab the Nature’s Home Essentials bundle which contains the cleaner, spray bottle, recipe booklet, Thieves essential oil, dish soap, laundry soap (dilution recipe HERE), foaming hand soap, fruit & veggie soak and toothpaste! This is a great way to dip your toe in the water, especially if you already have a diffuser and some oils. If not…

#3 Go all in and grab a Healthy Homes Premium Starter Kit which comes with most of the goodies in the Nature’s Home Bundle PLUS a diffuser, 5 oils and some NingXia samples. Incredible value in this one!

With all of these options, there are no membership fees or commitment to purchase again, but if you do want to start switching your home and personal care products to low-tox, I recommend signing up for Young Living’s monthly wellness box – Essential Rewards – which is completely customisable every month and gets you some free products + lots of points back which you can redeem to switch more of your household products to low-tox.

Young Living is not just oils and household cleaner! You can use the monthly subscription to get your deodorant, face cleanser, supplements, energy drink, healthy snacks, laundry products, make-up and more! It’s delivered to your door each month and means you can avoid 2-4 aisles of the supermarket, which is pretty brilliant for a busy mama.
