Day 5
Simplify cleaning.
Does it feel like you’re ALWAYS cleaning? Or like no matter how much you clean, you just can’t keep on top of it all?
Short of outsourcing some of your housework to a local cleaner, it can be hard to effectively simplify cleaning. And let’s face it, even if you DO outsource to a cleaner, there’s still a lot of stuff to be done.
It’s something that has to be done, yet something that we struggle to keep on top of amidst the nappy changes, bedtime stories, soccer games and wee-small-hours cuddles.
Try this.
Every hour, stop for 2 minutes and do a speed-clean. Clean or tidy everything that was used within the last hour.
If this feels like too much, try doing it for 5 minutes every 3 hours instead. Or a 1 minute clean between activities or lessons (if you homeschool).
The key here is to chip away at the mess, as it happens. This method effectively eliminates a big clean-up at the end of the day and lets you sit down with a cuppa instead!
If you’re home with children most of the time, this is a really fun way to get the kids involved in the responsibility of looking after the home and cleaning up after themselves. It helps put a stop to having 10 games out at once and reminds them that someone has to clean up -whether it’s them, or mum or a cleaner.
Happy speed-cleaning!
Every time we start something new (a new season, a new year, even a new month), we’re fresh, excited and committed to make changes that matter but then, as days turn into weeks and then, months, the commitment dims and finally, fades away.
I know this because I’ve been the same way. Whether it’s learning a new skill, introducing a new routine, forming a new habit, once the excitement ends and everyday life enters, I’m ready to give it all up.
Except when I have someone to support me through the change, someone to cheer me on, someone to show me what to do when I’m stuck.
When I have someone to guide me, encourage me, inspire me, I can make change happen with ease. Change that makes a difference. Change that lasts.
If you’re ready to make that change for your home and life and are looking for the support and strategy to make it last… Simple Life, Peaceful Home is for you.
