When you find out you’re expecting, one of the first things that goes through your mind is “what will … think?” And I don’t mean some nosey parker at the shops or the random stranger who’ll take your bloods and ask how many other kids you have.

When you find out you’re expecting, one of the first things that goes through your mind is “what will … think?” And I don’t mean some nosey parker at the shops or the random stranger who’ll take your bloods and ask how many other kids you have. I mean your friend who can’t have kids, is struggling to fall pregnant or who has had a recent loss. That’s who goes through your mind. “I hope she is ok when I share this news.”

When you find out you’re expecting after loss, the thought you might lose this new little one before you can bring them earthside never really leaves your mind the whole time you’re pregnant but especially in those first fragile weeks. “Will we get to keep this one?”

When you find out you’re expecting and it’s any baby after the first 2 or 3, you brace yourself for the negative comments but are blown away by the positive, welcoming and heartfelt energy of the people you actually know and who love and support your family. “What a joy it is to be given another child to love and care for.”
