Parenting lesson of the week: break your own rules.

I grew up with 3 sisters and we all had long hair most of our young lives. Looking back now, I don’t know how my mum did it.

My 7 year old daughter has always had long hair. In part because it looks lovely, in part because long hair is relatively easy, but perhaps mostly out of sentimentality for the way things were when I was young.

But every day there would be tears when it came to doing hair. It didn’t matter how much conditioner we used or how well plaited it had been the night before… There were always tears and angst.

So we cut it on Sunday. And there have been no tears over hair this week. No frustration. No angst.
