Honestly, it’s almost “another day, another study” at this point.
This time, researchers took 56 children who needed dental treatment that involved nerve injection. The 28 children in the first group were asked to inhale the aromatic blend of Lavender-Neroli essential oil using a nasal mask while also listening to their favourite music as a background 5 minutes before and during anaesthesia. The 28 children in the placebo group wore an empty nasal mask.
You already know how this turns out: dental anxiety was significantly lower in the aromatherapy with music group when compared to the control group.
Knowing what we know about lavender, it really seems unnecessary at this point to continue to subject children to these studies. We KNOW that lavender will help them, so why do we do this? Perhaps half the parents didn’t believe that the essential oils would have any impact and opted for their kids to go without. Perhaps they hadn’t seen any of the thousands of studies proving lavender’s positive impact as a nervous system relaxant. Who knows.
But we know. And when we know better, we do better.
If your child needs support with sleep, stress and mood, lavender might be just the thing you need to add to your parenting toolbox.
